Travel Ban Possible as Sandy Nears

Rain has started to fall across the area now that Hurricane Sandy has gotten closer and the township administration is in the final steps of preparing for the storm's arrival. 

While there are currently no evacuations called for and no travel plans an email from Township Manager Helene Schlegel said that may change as the storm gets closer. "We ask that throughout the duration of the storm travel be limited to essential personnel only," she said. "Please be prepared for a complete travel ban as conditions deteriorate."

Recycling will not be collected on Monday and residents are asked to bring in all their containers from the curb. 

Schlegel also said that Township Offices will be closed to the public on Monday. 

Shelters are now available for residents at both Monmouth University and the Brisbane Center in Wall. The Wall facility is also taking residents with pets, but those seeking shelter must first go through reception sites in the town. The three areas in Howell are at the Southard Fire House at 4611 Route 9, the Adelphia Fire Substation at 993 Route 33 and the Ramtown Fire House at 88 Ramtown Greenville Road.
