Wet Weather and Traffic Make for a Difficult Trip to the Jersey Shore

Storms delay trains while cars move southbound

With another weekend upon us, that means more people heading down to the Jersey Shore to hopefully enjoy some sun this Father's Day weekend.

Unfortunately, rain showers and the occasional thunderstorm are putting a damper on the early part of the weekend. According to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the weather is already having an impact on the rails.

New Jersey Transit is reporting delays of anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes going into and leaving New York Penn Station on the Northeast Corridor, the North Jersey Coastline and the Midtown Direct lines. Signal problems are causing issues all along the corridor making for a delay in the trip home for many commuters.

As of 4:15 on Friday afternoon, the Turnpike Authority is reporting an accident on the Parkway near exit 105 in Tinton Falls. The parties involved have been moved to the shoulder of the northbound express lanes, but there could still be delays in the area.

There is also reportedly an accident on the northbound side of the parkway just south of Exit 88 in Toms River. This crash has also been moved to the shoulder but it could slow traffic in an normally congested area of the roadway.

For those travelers coming from Mercer County, there is a delay reported on Route 29 in Trenton heading to 295 as a result of heavy volume in the area. The Turnpike also has reported delays going south from Exit 8A  to the Molly Pitcher Service Area. The two mile stretch is causing roughly a five minute delay for drivers.
