GCU’s Year of Faith Retreat Explores the Significance of Prayer

In this Year of Faith, the topic of prayer surfaces as an important question to address. Why do we pray and how does the Bible help shape our lives of prayer?

In this Year of Faith, the topic of prayer surfaces as an important question to address. Why do we pray and how does the Bible help shape our lives of prayer? Georgian Court University’s springtime retreat on Saturday, March 2, will address the significance of the Bible on personal and communal prayer. Judith Schubert, RSM, Ph.D., GCU professor of theology and religious studies, will explore the influence of the Psalms and the New Testament on our prayer life. The presentations will unfold the remarkable influence of sacred scripture on our lives and its impact on us in the 21st century.

The daylong event, which begins at 10:00 a.m. and includes lunch, will include time for sharing and silent reflection and conclude with Sunday liturgy at 4:00 p.m. The GCU Alumni and Parents Committee is hosting this retreat as part of the Year of Faith celebration at GCU.

The Year of Faith, as declared in October 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI, will be celebrated globally from October 11, 2012, to November 24, 2013. The global observance marks the 50th anniversary of Vatican II and the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
