New Jersey Natural Gas to Be Honored at Georgian Court University Scholarship Golf Classic

NJNG will be honored during GCU's Scholarship Classic on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club.

Georgian Court University has named New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) the recipient of the university’s Joseph E. Buckelew Civic Service Award for its commitment to the customers and communities it serves. NJNG will be honored during GCU’s Scholarship Classic on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club. Laurence M. Downes, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of New Jersey Resources (NJR), and its principal subsidiary, New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), will accept the award on behalf of the company.

This is the 18th year for GCU’s annual scholarship classic, an outing that brings supporters of the university together for a day of fun and fund-raising. This year, the event begins with registration and a barbecue brunch at 11:00 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Later, participants will enjoy a 5:30 p.m. silent auction and open bar cocktail reception, followed by an awards dinner at which NJNG will be honored. This year, the university also opens the event up to non-golfers, who can attend the cocktail reception, silent auction, and gourmet dinner for just $100 per person, with table sponsorships starting at $750. A portion of all dinner tickets and dinner table sponsorships is tax deductible.

“New Jersey Natural Gas has a long history of community service—its employees, who generously give of their time and talents to help those in need, exemplify the Mercy core value of service, a value treasured by and ingrained in GCU students, staff, and alumni,” says Georgian Court University President Rosemary E. Jeffries, RSM, Ph.D., ’72. “We are so grateful to Mr. Downes for his support of Georgian Court and his outstanding leadership of a company that always puts the needs of the community first. This is our largest fund-raising event and all proceeds go directly to student scholarships.”
