Georgian Court University Offers Public Events for the Fall

The fall edition of Mosaic, Georgian Court University’s guide to entertainment, educational, spiritual, and cultural events open to the public, is available and tickets for events ranging from Victorian Parlor Games to a high society holiday social are on sale.

Sponsored by the McAuley Community Center, the booklet also includes the Lions athletic schedule and a list of events for the McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning.

Alexis Jankowski, GCU conference and event coordinator, says the Friday night dinners and lectures sell out quickly. These include those in the Adventures in Fine Art series, with lectures on mannerism and impressionism; Musical Storytelling with Maestro Anthony LaGruth of the Garden State Philharmonic, with lectures on what makes a symphony and the myths and legends surrounding Mozart, and the Lectures-In-Song with Fred Miller series, focusing on Frank Loesser and Alan Jay Lerner. Tickets are $37 each, and the lectures all start at 6:30 p.m.

The fall headline speaker is Kevin Ryan, president and CEO of Covenant House International, one of the largest charities in the Americas devoted to serving homeless and trafficked children and youth. He will speak November 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre. Tickets are $5 in advance, $15 at the door, and free to GCU community members.

Also an annual sellout is Mrs. Gould’s Annual Holiday Social, now in its 12th year. It takes place in the Gould Mansion’s Great Hall, which will be decorated for an early 1900s Christmas. There are 27 luncheon performance dates beginning Nov. 6. Tickets are $42.

The brunch and concert event, conducted by Maestro LaGruth, will include music by the Strauss family and Leroy Anderson. Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door with reservations.

Other scheduled events include:

  • “It’s All in the Timing! The Genius of Jack Benny & Bob Hope,” which explores the dramatically different comic styles of these two very funny men, October 24, $10 advance, $15 at the door.
  •  “An Encounter with Simone Weill,” a screening hosted by filmmaker Julia Haslett who will lead a discussion of the French philosopher, activist, and mystic, November 7, free with reservation.
