William Behre Is New Provost at Georgian Court University

William Behre, Ph.D., joins Georgian Court University this month as the school’s new provost. Dr. Behre, who comes to Georgian Court from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing, will serve as GCU’s chief academic officer and become a member of President Rosemary E. Jeffries’ administrative team.

“Dr. Behre brings good experience and skills that benefit to our campus and our ongoing work to assure a quality education in our Catholic and Mercy tradition,” said President Jeffries, who named him to the post after an extensive personnel search that drew applicants from across the country.

In addition to being an experienced faculty leader and educator, Dr. Behre has been successful in multiple leadership roles, including vice provost and assistant vice president for grants, enterprise initiatives, and summer and off-campus programs.

“I am thrilled to be joining Georgian Court,” says Dr. Behre. “I firmly believe that the university's Mercy mission, talented and caring faculty and staff, and intimate learning environment lay the groundwork for an extraordinary college experience. I look forward to working with the university community to bring the Georgian Court experience to a wider array of students.”

During his 16-year tenure at TCNJ, Dr. Behre also taught in the college’s School of Education and served as its dean. He is an avid researcher and scholar with expertise in special education, assistive technology, and school violence.

Dr. Behre has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Vassar College, a master’s degree in special education from Hunter College, and a doctorate in education with a focus on special education policy from the University of Michigan.

He succeeds Evelyn Quinn, MSW, M.Ed., ‘74 who has served the university in many roles over 30 years, and most recently as provost since 2010. After a sabbatical this spring, Ms. Quinn will return to GCU as vice president for mission integration in the fall of 2014.
