Squankum FD Collecting Items for Local FoodBank

Items collected will be brought to FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Thanksgiving is just more than three weeks away and one local fire department is doing its part to make sure local families have food on the table for the holidays.

The Squankum Fire Department will be hosting a food and fund drive until November 25 collecting not only food items but money that the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties can use to buy more food to help those in need.

For the next three weeks a wide variety of items can be brought to the firehouse located at 271 Squankum Road in Farmingdale. The list includes ready-to-eat canned meals, canned meat, fruits and vegetables, instant potatoes as well as canned and dry soup. The FoodBank also is accepting items like peanut butter and jelly as well as canned and sip-sized juices, cereal and nonperishable milk.

Perishable items like frozen meat, poultry, hot dogs and turkey can also be dropped at the firehouse for delivery to the Neptune facility. For every $5 donated to the FoodBank $30 worth of food can be distributed to families and individuals in need.

Donations can be brought to the firehouse Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. If none of the firefighters or members are at the house at the time items can be left in the black container near the side door of the building.
