Voting Senator Singer Out Of Office Will Stop Further Irresponsible Development In Our District

Senator Singer has allowed rampant development with no regard to improving infrastructure first. We need responsible development that starts with improving blighted areas first.

For years Senator Singer was known to be a good friend to developers and landowners. He was integral in helping builders change the master plan to fit their needs with no regard to the needs of residents. He sat back and allowed appointments to the zoning and planning boards that would green light every project that he gave his blessing to. Singer was always repaid for his "help" with votes, campaign contributions, and more.

Singer’s consulting contracts were part of an Asbury Park Press investigation dubbed “Profiting from Public Service.”

In 2003, in his role as a township committeeman, and with his influence as a State Senator,  Singer acquired state approval. and voted for a controversial office park backed by the development arm of the local rabbinical college. Three months later, he got a $50,000 consulting contract from a technology company after the park developer’s son recommended him for the job.

As only a part-time public official, Singer said, he saw nothing wrong with his decision to accept the contract and other related benefits, made possible through his friendship with Jack Mueller, CEO of Cedarbridge Development Corp., and his stockbroker son.

“I have four children; I’m not a wealthy man,” Singer said at the time. “If I have an opportunity to do something for myself and my family, I have a right to do that.”

Yes,  Senator Singer you had a "legal" right to do that. But now your irresponsible decision to give away land for an 'office park' is going to end up becoming 3200 townhouses. Townhouses, that come along with all the educational, and public maintenance responsibilities that will cost taxpayers dearly. This overdevelopment has already begun to have an adverse effect on surrounding townships as traffic overflows onto neighboring roadways.

Singer's insistence that the Blueclaws stadium would be an economic engine was a complete farce. The mall that was slated to go across from the stadium was recently approved to be switched to 150.......you guessed it, townhouses.

Senator Singer's legacy will be remembered for many years to come. Every time we drive down Route Nine, and we are stuck in traffic for an hour to travel one mile through Lakewood, we will remember what he did for his district.

Our job now is to try our best to undo the damage done all these years under Singer. We will need to work with the State to expand some roads for sure, but the main focus needs to be to stop further large developments before we revitalize areas of our district that are blighted. We cannot build a future on a foundation that is unstable.

I look forward to helping our district achieve this goal.
