Farmingdale Resident George S. Hoptay Dies at 83

Hoptay was a veteran who worked as an engineer for American Cyanamid before retiring.

George S. Hoptay, 83, of Farmingdale passed away on Tuesday at The Manor, Freehold Township. George was born, raised and had lived in Linden prior to moving to Edison, and eventually settled in Farmingdale in 2009. After serving as a veteran in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, he worked as an engineer for American Cyanamid, Linden retiring in 1986. 

George was an avid bowler, having scored a perfect “300” in 2003. He also enjoyed golfing and was a Mets fan but most of all his family was his life.

George is survived by his wife, Georgiana Hoptay; a daughter, Deborah Diliberto and her husband, Lenny of Flemington; a son, Daniel Hoptay and his wife, Barbara of Farmingdale; four grandchildren, Kristine, Jennifer, Daniel and Samantha; a brother, Stephen Hoptay of Linden; a sister, Merrily Cardinoza of Whiting; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. 

Interment will be private.
