Obituary: Joan S. Clayton Bergstrom, 74

Longtime bus driver for Howell schools

Joan S. Clayton Bergstrom, 74, won her 5 year battle with cancer, when her lord called her home on Monday, April 30, 2012.  She was born and raised in Neptune and had moved to Howell in 1966. 

She was a dedicated school bus driver for Howell Township Board of Education for 30 years before retiring in 1996.  She loved her “special children.”  Joan loved gardening, making curtains and quilts. She is a member of Trinity Bible Church and a past member of Crosspoint Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her father, Alfred Sculthorpe.  Surviving are her four children, April Cottrell, Bordentown, Sherri Clayton, Wall, Chad Clayton, Freehold and Robin Coles, Florida; her four grandchildren, Rebecca Devane, Regina Wilkins, Rachel Devane and Tucker W. Clayton; her mother, Eleanor Hutzley, Neptune; a sister, Patricia Green, Toms River; her aunt, Elsie Morrison, Neptune; and Joan’s husband, Robert of Howell.

Visiting at the Trinity Bible Church, 3801 Allenwood-Lakewood Road, Allenwood, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 3, 2012 with her funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with the Senior Pastor Lenny Bernotas, officiating.  Family is  invited to attend her 10:00 AM graveside service on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Hamilton Cemetery, Neptune. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joan’s memory may be made to Trinity Bible Church, 3801 Allenwood-Lakewood Road, Allenwood, NJ 08720 or The Tucker W. Clayton Medical Fund.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township.
