Popular Shore Musician Dies at 56

Herbert A. Van Note III enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his Harley and performing with his friends in After The Reign

Herbert A. Van Note III, 56, of Barnegat, formerly of West Long Branch, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with his daughters by his side. Known as Herbie, he was born in Long Branch and was a lifelong shore area musician who had a passion for playing the drums. He was employed by the City of Long Branch in the ground maintenance division. He formerly owned a landscaping business and took much pride in his work. Herbie enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his Harley and performing with his friends in After The Reign.

He was predeceased by his mother Gloria Dennis Van Note. Surviving are two daughters and a son in law, Leanna and Christopher Sheldon of Long Branch; Chelsea Van Note of Middletown, their mother, Leslie Van Note of West Long Branch; his father, Herbert A. Van Note, Jr. of West Long Branch; two sisters, Bethanne Van Note and Kathy Van Note, both of West Long Branch; and Herbie’s High School Sweetheart, Susan Lowe of Barnegat.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 2:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7:00pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. (Corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. In lieu of flower, the family asks that donations be made to the Herbert A. Van Note, III Music Scholarship, P.O. Box 567, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
