Asbury Park Man Charged With Impersonating Officer

Investigation was conducted by local and county police departments

An Asbury Park resident who falsely told police during a Feb. 2012 traffic stop that he was member of the Asbury Park Police Department has been indicted on several charges by a Monmouth County Grand Jury.

The indictment said that on Feb. 14, 2012 Derrick Parreott, 45, was pulled over by the Howell Police Department at the intersection of West Aldrich Rd. and Margaret Lane. At that time Parreott said he was still an officer in the department and "presented credentials to that effect," while further investigation showed he had been fired by the city exactly one year before. The indictment said he had been terminated for "administrative reasons."

Parreott was indicted on one count of fourth degree impersonating a law enforcement officer. The maximum sentence he faces is up to 18 months in prison. He was also charged with several motor vehicle violations including no inspection decal, improper passing on the right shoulder and failure to make repairs.
