Brick, Toms River Police to Team Up on Marine Patrols For Holiday Week

Manpower will be shared over the holiday week

Brick and Toms River police will team up for the remainder of the holiday week to provide marine patrols on the waterways of both townships.

Patrols will be periodic as manpower permits, with some patrols being conducted with a joint unit of one officer from each department, said Brick Police Capt. John Rein.

Both departments will also overlap patrol coverage areas to include areas in both townships if only one department has a unit on duty at a given time, Rein said.

The joint patrols of Barnegat Bay, rivers and laggoons in the two towns will "help make it safer during one of the busiest boating weeks of the year," Brick Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said.

"I think our collective effort to make the waterways in our towns safer is an excellent example of that cooperative spirit which benefits all of our residents," said Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher, adding that the two towns already share many services and are continuing to look for additional areas of cooperation.

The two towns will also cooperate to provide joint EMS coverage to the barrier island sections of Brick and Toms River during the busy summer months.

It must be the ecomony. I was out last Sunday driving my boat back from Barnegat Inlet about 4 in the afternoon and it seemed like there was about one half the amount of boats out on the bay then in passed years

Come on down Kettle Creek and other places frequented by drunken sailors and speeders through no-wake zones. Fatten up the township treasury by fining all the waterborne jerks.
