Coyotes Reported Sighted in Town

Sighted on Lakewood-Farmingdale Road

A group of coyotes was reportedly sighted in Howell on Sunday night according to an email from Township Manager Helene Schlegel.

The coyotes were seen by a resident in the area of Lakewood-Farmingdale Road and have been reported to the proper authorities. Schlegel said the resident saw a male and female with a group of pups in that area.

In the email Schlegel said there are several things people can do if they find the coyotes on their property. That includes making "as much noise as possible to make them feel uncomfortable," as well as things like throwing tennis balls at them to scare them away.

While those are ways to harmlessly get rid of the animals, Schlegel said they should not be provided food.

Anyone who does see the coyotes is encouraged to call the township at 732-938-4500 at either extension 2241 or 2240.
