Freehold Pair Charged After Late Night Arrest

Two men arrested reportedly have gang connection

Two Freehold residents, reportedly members of the Bloods street gang, were arrested in Howell last week after police recovered a firearm following a verbal dispute at the Countryside Place Apartments.

Freehold residents Xavier Reed and Brandon Brown, both 20, were among four men arrested just after midnight on Feb. 15.

Police said they stopped Reed and Brown's car near a 7-Eleven at the intersection of Route 9 and Casino Drive. A 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun was recovered in the bushes of the 7-Eleven, said Detective Sgt. Eileen Dodd of the Howell Police Department,.

Reed was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a defaced firearm, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm and tampering with evidence.

Brown was charged with hindering apprehension by providing aid to another.
