Howell Police Dept. Welcomes 7 New Officers

Five are Howell natives.

Seven new police officers have joined the Howell Township Police Department, bringing the force up to 82 sworn officers.  

The new hires replace retiring officers. They were congratulated by Howell Mayor Bill Gotto and the Howell Township Council at the July 15 meeting.

Here are the seven new officers, with information provided by Howell PD:

Nicholas Austin, has prior law enforcement experience working for the Camden County Police department and is a fully certified Police Officer. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Rutgers University. 

Nicolas Saltzman graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy in May 2014 as part of their alternate route program and is a fully certified Police Officer. He was also a Special Law Enforcement (SLEO) II Officer and dispatcher in Lavallette. He holds a bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.

Matthew Waryasz graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy in December 2013 as part of their alternate route program and is a fully certified Police Officer. He holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Mercer County College. 

Matthew Cadott, was employed as a SLEO II Officer in Monmouth Beach. He holds an associate’s degree from Brookdale Community College 

Vincent Campagnola was employed as a SLEO II Officer in Sea Girt. He holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Brookdale Community College. 

Ryan Lowe is a recent graduate of The College of NJ where he obtained his bachelor’s degree. He is enrolled in the Monmouth County Police Academy 87th Basic Course for Police Officers. 

Heather Scherbinski holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Brookdale Community College. She is enrolled in the Monmouth County Police Academy 87th Basic Course for Police Officers. 

Nicholas Austin, Matthew Cadott, Ryan Lowe, Vincent Campagnola and Heather Scherbinski all grew up in Howell Township. Nicholas Saltzman was raised in Toms River and Matthew Waryasz is from Hamilton Township. 

Matthew Cadott and Vincent Campagnola, as certified SLEO II Officers will each need some classes at the Police Academy to complete their certifications. 

Ryan Lowe and Heather Scherbinski will attend the full academy, which begins in August.
