Jackson Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge

A Jackson man is accused of trying to murder his former girlfriend before attacking two Englishtown police officers.

A Jackson man is behind held at Monmouth County Correctional Institution after he was charged Sunday with attempted murder and resisting resist following an incident in Englishtown.

According to Lt. Peter Cooke Jr. of the Englishtown Police Department, police responded to an Oxford Court home after receiving a 911 call at 7:57 a.m. that reported screaming and calls for coming from the area.

Police Officer First Class Alexander Dinicola, III and Patrolman Scott Zapora responded to the home and Manalapan police assisted in arresting Kevin J. Kearney, 43, after he was found allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend. The woman, 48, was transported to CentraState Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries and released.  

Kearney was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, burglary, weapons possession, resisting arrest, stalking, making terroristic threats, and contempt of court order. Kearney was also charged with a petty disorderly person’s offense of harassment.

He is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $650,000 bail with no 10 percent option.
