Late Night Crash Sends Two to Hospital

Lakewood resident struck two trees in accident

A Monoc helicopter brought one patient to Jersey Shore University Medical Center on Saturday night while a second patient was brought by ground following a one car accident on Alexander Ave.

According to Ptl. Scott Brooks of the Josel Luis Ocotl Mones, 35, of Lakewood was driving his 2002 Ford F150 a little before 10:30 at night when he "failed to properly negotiate a bend in the road to the left. As a result he went of the road and struck two trees.

Brooks said Mones was found unconscious at the scene where he was treated by the and Monoc paramedics before being flown to the Neptune hospital with head and chest injuries. The passenger in the car, 29-year-old Benjamin Candelas, also of Lakewood, was taken to Jersey Shore for what Brooks described as minor injuries.

The Southard Fire Department was called to the scene to help set up the landing zone for the helicopter.

As of Sunday morning no summonses have been issued and the crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact either Ptl. Michael Maccia or Brook at 732-938-4111.
