Monmouth County Crime: Bamboozling Bars Busted For Bad Booze

Weekly wrap up of crime stories throughout Monmouth County

While there was no shortage of crime reporting this week, the story that appears to have raised the ire of the majority is the bust by state authorities of 29 bars and restaurants throughout the state that, the Attorney General's Office charges, charged patrons for premium liquor while fraudulently delivering substandard alcohol.

But that wasn't all the crime reported by the Monmouth Patch staff. Below are the top crime stories from around the county this week.

Howell Man Indicted In Rape of 3-Year-Old

A 20-year-old Howell man was indicted by a grand jury on Friday, charged with the rape of a 3-year-old child, according to the indictment.

Police allege the Matawan resident is responsible for two early morning burglaries where a female was home alone and assaulted.

Manalapan Man Accused of Firebombing Veteran Officer's Home

An Edison police officer, a Manalapan resident, has been charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated arson in connection with a fire at the Monroe home of a veteran police officer set on Monday, May 20.

'Operation Swill' Targets Freehold TGI Fridays

The Freehold Township TGI Friday's location is among 29 bars and restaurants throughout New Jersey state offiicals have targeted in a year-long investigation into bars they may have served cheap booze while charging premium prices, according to the state Attorney General's Office.
