Police: Marlboro Man Dies After Running Red Light in Freehold

Two others were hospitalized after the 11 p.m. crash that killed Daniel Velva, 40.

A Morganville man was killed on Friday night after police said he ran a red light in Freehold.

Two others were hospitalized after the 11 p.m. crash that killed Daniel Velva, 40, according to NJ.com. Velva's Sebring collided with a 2007 Chrysler at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 79.

According to Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Charlie Webster, Velva's vehicle was on fire when police arrived on scene.

Two Middletown residents, John Johnson Jr., 50, and Collen Coppa, 52, were in the Chrysler and taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to NJ.com.

Police determined Velva did run a red light, but the accident investigation remains open. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443.
