UPDATE: Missing Howell Boy Found, Community Relieved

Large search effort included social media outreach, and has a happy ending.

Howell Police reported that efforts to find the missing juvenile they declined to name in reports was found late Saturday night. In a Facebook post they wrote: 

"Thank you everyone for your efforts.. We have located the missing juvenile and he is safe and in good condition. Thank you also to the numerous volunteers from the fire, EMS, and OEM departments that assisted with the search."

The earlier report that the boy was missing had been shared by Facebook users around 2,400 times, proof of Howell and the surrounding community's deep caring and urgent concern for the youth whose name they did not even necessarily know. 

Original story, Saturday 10 p.m.: 
Howell Township Police Department announced Saturday that they are searching for a missing 16 year old boy with autism who went missing from the area of the Howell High School. 

He is described as 5'7", 110 lbs., brown hair and brown eyes.

Police say he was last seen wearing a green day-glow shirt and grey sweatpants.

"He is an avid runner, so could possibly be a great distance from home," the department noted on its Howell Police Facebook page at 6 p.m., a post that was shared by concerned users more than 1,644 times in less than four hours. 

In another post, the department said a command post had been set up at the high school. 

"At this time we are not requesting assistance from the public other than a 'be on the lookout.' Multiple police K9 units are being deployed for the search," the post said.
