UPDATE: Route 33 Reopened Following Crash

Serious collision reported

UPDATE 3:50 PM: Route 33 was reopened after an hour following a serious accident. The Howell Police Department reported the road was reopened and the driver deemed at fault for the crash was arrested after attempting to flee the scene.

The Howell Police Department is reporting on its Facebook page that Route 33 is closed in both directions between Yellowbrook Road and Fairfield Road.

A serious accident near the Monmouth County Fire Academy figures to create traffic problems in the area for several hours and the department is making suggestions on ways to move around the scene.

For eastbound traffic there will be a detour onto Fairfield road to Route 524. Drivers are encouraged to make a left heading into Farmingdale, make a left on Colts Neck Road with church on the corner and get back onto Route 33.

Westbound drivers should turn left onto Colts Neck Road near the flashing traffic signal and take that road to the end. At the end of the road make a right onto Route 524 and head west approximately three miles to Fairfield Road. That will then intersect with Route 33 after the accident scene.
