Route 33 Set to Open Again After Late Night Accident

Driver struck a pole in one car crash

The Howell Police Department announced on Thursday morning that a late night crash at the intersection of Route 33 and Colts Neck Road was being cleared allowing the roadway to be reopened.

Sgt. Eileen Dodd said just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday night a 17-year-old Tinton Falls resident was driving east on Route 33 when he reportedly started to fall asleep at the wheel. His car then hit a telephone pole which caused the road to be blocked off and closed to all through traffic.

The driver was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Howell First Aid Squad with complaints of shoulder and chest pain. Also responding to the scene was the nearby Adelphia Fire Company and the Monmouth County Department of Transportation Diversion team.
