Situation Resolved: Star's Brother Cleared of Assault Charges

Howell's Marc Sorrentino, brother of 'Jersey Shore' star and former Manalapan resident Mike Sorrentino, is cleared due to lack of evidence.

The "Jersey Shore" may be coming to a courtroom near you.  Marc Sorrentino, older brother of former Manalapan resident Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, was in Howell Municipal Court Thursday afternoon stemming from an Oct. 20 incident in which he was accused of simple assault.

Plantiff Kathryn Redino, 24, of Manhattan, initially claimed Sorrentino punched her in the stomach as he exited a limousine near his Howell home. Howell police declined to file charges because no evidence of assault was found. Redino signed a citizen's complaint on Oct. 22 accusing Sorrentino of misdemeanor assault.

Days later, Redino filed a complaint with the New York City Police Department stating Sorrentino forced her to go on a limo ride from New York to New Jersey against her will. In addition, she said Sorrentino threatened to cut her throat with broken glass from a champagne bottle. Howell police investigated the matter but no further charges were filed.

Redino had been partying with the Sorrentino brothers in a Chelsea club before exiting into a limo that brought the group of seven individuals to a house party.  They then left the gathering and Redino claimed she asked to be dropped off at her Upper East Side apartment, but the men within the limo refused.

Marc Sorrentino filed a counter complaint accusing Redino of assault and lying to law enforcement officials. The two parties appeared before Howell Municipal Court Judge Allen S. Kaplan on Thursday. Both agreed to drop the charges filed against one another.

Freehold attorney Raymond A. Raya represented Marc Sorrentino. Raya is familiar with the MTV show as the lawyer previously represented Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi in Seaside Heights Municipal Court last summer following her arrest on charges of disorderly conduct and creating a public nuisance.

Sorrentino, 32, is the CEO of MPS Entertainment, a company he owns with his television star brother. Sorrentino also heads a Las Vegas firm that operates various pornography websites.

Mike Sorrentino, breakout star of MTV's "Jersey Shore," was in the limousine at the time of the incident. He was questioned but not charged with any wrongdoing.
