UPDATE: Everything Back to Normal After Power Outages

Outages reported along Route 9 corridor

A power outage that affected a portion of Route 9 in Howell has been resolved and according to the Howell Police Department everything is business as usual as of 9:55 on Friday night.

For those motorists hoping to get a head start on the weekend traffic in town Friday, the stifiling heat that settled on the area made that difficult especially for people driving on Route 9.

Power outages were reported along the roadway, especially north of the Route 195 corridor, making for difficult traffic situations for those hoping to get into the flow of traffic. While the power problems on Route 9 mostly affected traffic lights, there were also clear signs of businesses including the Wawa and Lukoil stations above 195 being without power.

The Howell Police Department was also monitoring intersections that were without power to ensure that drivers were safe and any pedestrians hoping to cross the road were able to without too many problems.

An email from Township Manager Helene Schlegel said that the utility company, the township's Office of Emergency Management and the police department were all out trying to remedy the situation. Schlegel said as of 3:45 the power problems would likely continue for the next two hours. In addition to total outages, Schlegel's email also warned of possible brownouts that could affect residents of the township as well as those passing through on the local roadways.

There are roughly 500 customers without power in Monmouth County while anywhere from 5000 to 10000 customers are having issues with their power in Ocean County. Part of the problems in Ocean County stem from a reported blown transformer in the Point Pleasant area.
