UPDATE: Residents Attempted to Extinguish Saturday Brickyard Fire

Fire started in the laundry room

A that broke out just after noon on Saturday on Brickyard Road reportedly started in the laundry room according to the latest reports from the Howell Township Police Department. 

Sergeant Eileen Dodd said that when police and fire fighters responded to the scene, heavy smoke was visible coming from the house. Dodd said upon their arrival they found one of the homeowners, Robert Montgomerie attempting to douse the fire in his basement with a garden hose. 

The initial investigation revealed that the residents of the house had been washing two plastic pillows when the fire ignited in the dryer, according to Dodd.

Several local agencies reported to the scene of the fire and helped block off the road to the house located between Buckalew Road and Breezeway Drive. The responders included the Adelphia and Squankum fire companies from Howell as well as mutual aid from Freehold, Colts Neck and Naval Weapons Station Earle. 

Also assisting in the efforts was the Howell Police EMS and the Farmingdale and Howell first aid squads. The investigation is being handled by the Howell Fire Bureau.
