An accident on Herbertsville Road resulted in the death of a Virginia man after his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer driven by a Freehold resident.
Ptl. Scott Brooks of the Howell Police Department reported at 10:25 on Friday morning Jon Englishman, 66, of Midlothian, VA was driving west on Herbertsville when his 2004 Ford E250 van crossed the center line and hit a tractor trailer driven by 26-year-old Ryan Reid of Freehold.
Following the collision Englishman was removed from the van and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Howell Police Department EMS who performed CPR during the ride. Brooks said Englishman was pronounced dead a short time later. Reid was not injured in the crash.
Also responding to the scene were the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Crash Unit and Serious Crash Analysis Response Team, the Monmouth County Road Department and the Ramtown and Squankum Fire Departments.
The Howell Office of Emergency Management and the Monmouth County Hazmat Team also responded. Brooks said as a result of the crash fluid had spilled into a nearby stream requiring the hazmat team to be called out. Herbertsville Road was closed until approximately 3:30 p.m.
Brooks said the crash happened under rainy conditions and that the roads were “wet and slippery,” at the time. Witnesses are asked to call Ptl. Brooks at 732-938-4111 with any further information.
