County Earns $95K from Online Auction

More than 50 vehicles were sold to the highest bidder

Monmouth County banked $95,205 in surplus from the property auction held earlier in May.

The auction included 99 items for bid from the County’s Fleet Services, Bridge Division, Buildings and Grounds, Park System and Reclamation Center plus seized and surplus property from the Prosecutor’s Office.

“These surplus auctions are beneficial for both the County and our residents, who are attaining these items for a fraction of their actual cost,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone.

The items, including more than 50 vehicles, were sold to the highest bidder.

Vehicles made up a good share of the items in the auction, which was conducted by Auction Liquidation Services of Eatontown. The cars up for auction include a 2005 Cadillac CTS, a 2013 Ford Explorer and a 2003 Mercedes Benz CL55 AMG. A construction trailer was also auctioned off.

Office equipment such as copy machines and computer parts were also available, as are lawn mowers, chain saws, ladder tree stands, kilns and welders.

A complete list of the items was made available online with pictures and descriptions.

The County began conducting surplus property auctions completely online in 2008. There are two auctions a year — spring and fall — that are coordinated by the Department of Public Works and Engineering, Division of Fleet Services with assistance of the Purchasing Division.

Including this spring’s surplus auction, the County has earned a combined total of $2,017,488.

“By continuing to conduct the surplus and seized property auctions online, the County eliminates the need to pay overtime for security and item pick-up,” said Freeholder Gary J. Rich, liaison to the Purchasing Division. “The online auction has made this process a revenue stream.”
