Freehold Raceway Mall Owner Presents New Luxury Development Project

Macerich, owner of the Freehold Raceway Mall, has teamed up with Roseland Properties to bring a multi-use property to Freehold Township.

The Freehold Township Committee gave owners of a potential new multi-use property their blessing to proceed with presentations to the Master Plan Committee.

Roseland Properties and Macerich, owners of the nearby Freehold Raceway Mall, have teamed up to bring a new commercial and residential development to the Trotters Way area of Freehold Township.

During the March 21 committee meeting, Committee members listened to presentations about the potential new property, which would feature luxury apartments, neighborhood stores and other amenities.

The new development would be built near the Freehold Raceway Mall and would require the property to undergo a zone change from a commercial use zone to a regional mall zone. The new property would also require a major road change to the surrounding area.

“Everyone has questions on what it will do traffic wise. The county is going to vet this from the county standpoint. Our planning board and our traffic people will have at it. This will go through a major planning board process but the question is now zone change or no zone change,” said Township Administrator Peter Valesi.  “As a body we shouldn’t be considering what a planning board should consider, what our body needs to decide is whether or not you feel that we need a zone change on here.”

After hearing presentations from both Maceirch and Roseland, the Freehold Township Committee agreed to let the property owners go on to the next step by going in front of the Master Plan Committee.

“I tell ya, I like the concept,” said Deputy Mayor Anthony Ammiano. “One of the reasons why I am a little bit more comfortable than I normally would be is because of the fact that Macerich is involved. I say that with all do respect because of what you guys have done with the Mall with the way it looks, especially the lifestyle. You guys have done a phenomenal job for the Township of Freehold. I am more comfortable with you guys being involved in this than probably anyone else.”
