Howell Police Announce Traffic Shift During Viewing for Slain Officer

Route 9 southbound will have closures to accommodate expected crowds

Traffic will be altered on Route 9 southbound during the Wednesday viewing ceremony for Christopher Matlosz, the Lakewood officer, Manchester resident and Howell High School graduate who was killed on Friday.

The southbound lanes will be merged into one lane from the intersection of Lanes Mill Road and Route 9 to Route 9 and Alexander Avenue. The closures will impact traffic from 3 to 11 p.m., sad Sgt. Joseph Markulic of the traffic safety division.

The service itself will be held at the Lakewood Funeral home. located at 6250 on Route 9, between 4 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

"We are anticipating a large presence of family, friends and law enforcement officials to attend the viewing services for fallen Police Officer Christopher Matlosz, Lakewood Police Department," said Markulic.

Parking for those attending the ceremony will be available along Route 9 south in the shoulder and grass areas. Officers handling traffic duties will also be directing people to the limited number of parking lots in the area.

Additional parking will also be available at the border of Lakewood and Howell at the old Jamesway parking lot. Lakewood Township will be providing buses from the lot to the viewing.

Markulic said parking is being restricted on Route 9 northbound. In addition, Markulic advised those not attending the viewing to to avoid the area in order to limit the traffic they encounter.

"To avoid heavy traffic delays between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. we are asking that you find alternate routes for your travel needs," he said.
