LOP Student Takes Second in County Essay Contest

Essay on Horn Antenna in Holmdel earns recognition from Freeholders

When the Monmouth County Historical Commission announced the winners of its annual fifth grade essay contest, a student from the Land O'Pines School was recognized as one of the second place finishers.

Amanda Tran represented her school and her town well with her essay on the Horn Antenna in Holmdel. Both she and Paulia Corcoran of the Cove School in Hazlet won $75 bonds as their prizes. Corcoran wrote her award winning essay on the Twin Lights Lighthouse in Highlands.

Freeholder Lillian G. Burry said she was impressed by what the students submitted as their entries into the contest. "It is a pleasure to acknowledge youth who represent the written word through their well-organized thought and well-written sentences," she said. "Monmouth County is rich in history and I am glad to know that our young people are growing up with the desire to visit and to know more abut local history."
