Howell Provides Update on Brush Collection

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and the snowstorm that followed it the township has been working to collect the leaves, trees and debris that have been strewn along the roadside. 

This week a map was posted on the township's website showing areas that have so far been collected. The map also shows there is a lot of work to go but Township Manager Helene Schlegel said progress is being made.

She also said that areas that have been marked as picked up once will still have a chance to be picked up again. "With the amount of tree destruction throughout Howell Township, many residents in those areas that were picked up first were unable to have their brush out."

The township is currently working on a plan for the remainder of the cleanup efforts and Schlegel said "We will be sending out a date that all leaves and brush must be to the curb."

Schlegel said once the entire town has been collected the crews will make another round to collect more items. That will be the last chance for residents to leave their items on the curb. "Once the final pickup is complete, residents who continue to put leaves and brush to the curb may be subject to Code Enforcement."

The township recently received a grant from FEMA to help defray the costs of the storm cleanup and at their last meeting discussed an emergency appropriation to cover some of the costs as well.
