Adelphia Students Tip Their Caps to Cancer Research

Program helps raise funds for national organization

One of the first rules in just about any school that students have come to learn well is that they cannot wear caps or hats or anything on their head during the school day.

Students at Adelphia School were not only able to break that rule but were encouraged to do so as part of the Hats Off For Cancer "Mad Hatter Month," in October. Students in the school were asked to bring in new or gently used headgear and any monetary donations they wanted to make to the program.

By the time the month was done the school had collected more than 400 caps to give and $182. The school also got help from the outside community including the Howell Senior Center's Tangled Threads group, the Atria Senior Living in Tinton Falls and the Eatontown Senior Center who all made donations to the cause.

As part of the program the hats collected are given to children who have lost their hair during their battle with cancer. Since its inception Hats Off For Cancer has collected more than 1.5 million hats that have been distributed to those that need them during their fight. The monetary donations were given to the Valerie Fund Children's Center at Monmouth Medical Center.

More information on both programs can be found in the attached flyer.
