Annual Parent Academy to have 'Giant' Addition

Former football star to be keynote speaker

For the third year in a row the Howell Public Schools will host their annual Parent Academy at Middle School North.

This year's event is scheduled for March 24 with one big change from the previous two events. As part of the day former professional football player and Jersey Shore area native Keith Elias will be a keynote speaker.

After plowing his way through Ivy League defenses as a running back with the Princeton University Tigers Elias then played for the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts before becoming an inspirational and motivational speaker.

Elias said he has taken his message all over the world to help where he can. "From schools in America and Australia, to Katrina relief in Mississippi, to Tsunami stricken Thailand, to our troops stationed stateside and in Iraq, wherever there is a need, I've gone and will continue to go," Elias said. "I strive to no longer live for myself, but to serve others, and to bring a message of hope into the world."

This will be Elias' second trip to Howell in the past few months. During the holiday season he joined the Howell Police Department in helping to bring some extra holiday cheer to a local family.

One of the goals of the event is to bring together residents from around the town and representatives from the district. "The Parent Academy's mission is to enhance student success by strengthening the partnership between parents, community and educators of the Howell Township Public Schools," according to a release on the event.

As part of the event local restaurants as well as the district will be providing food and drinks to those in attendance. There will also be performances by students from around the district during the day.
