Ardena Honors Classroom Leaders

Students recognized for activities at school and at home

As part of their in the Leader In Me Program, students at were recently recognized for their efforts as part of their educational experience.

Each month as part of the program a "Ram Classroom Leader," is chosen. According to Mary Jurlina, the lead teacher at the school, the classroom leaders "are students who have demonstrated good choices and are practicing the '7 Habits of Highly Effective People' at home and while at school."

The students, she said, have earned "Ram Choice Awards" given out by teachers and staff and were then chosen at random by their teachers. "As the Ram Classroom Leader, the student is given extra responsibilities to further model the seven habits," she said. For their efforts, the leaders have their pictures hung outside their classrooms for everybody to see. The grade level student of the month is then picked from the group of leaders.

With the "Leader In Me" program, there are seven habits that the students are encouraged to follow. They include being proactive, "beginning with the end in mind," "putting first things first" and "thinking win-win." The three other habits are "seeking first to understand-then to be understood," as well as "synergizing" and sharpening the saw."

These are all lessons that are taught over the course of the year.
