Equipment Malfunction Leads to Temporary Evacuation of Middle School North

Students back in class after half an hour

Classes at Middle School North were interrupted briefly at 11:35 on Tuesday morning, when smoke from a malfunctioning exhaust fan in the building forced staff and students to temporarily evacuate.

According to Superintendent Enid Golden, after the fire alarm was pulled there was a quick response from the Freewood Acres and Farmingdale Fire Companies, as well as the Howell Police Department.

After the building was ventilated, Golden said the air was checked and once it was deemed safe, the day resumed at 12:05 in the afternoon. Golden gave credit to everyone involved for getting the day back to normalcy as quickly and safely as possible. "Thank you to the professional responders and also the students and staff of Middle School North and maintenance for their excellent handling of this occurrence," she said.
