Golf Outing Set to Honor Late HTEA President, Teacher

Money raised to be used for scholarship

In an effort to honor the memory of longtime Howell Township Education Association President and teacher Bill O'Brien a golf tournament has been planned to raise money for a scholarship in his name.

O'Brien taught in the district for 30 years including working as a seventh grade teacher at Middle School North since 1996.

The event will be held at the Gamblers Ridge Golf Course in Cream Ridge on June 26. It will be a 4 person team scramble with a shotgun start. The cost is $110 per golfer and includes a cart, lunch and keg at the clubhouse.

A letter from Doug Anderson, one of the people putting the event together said he hopes it will become an annual event. "We feel that this event could become one of the premier events of the year where the staff, administration, and Howell community come together to benefit our children and honor the name of Bill O'Brien." The first scholarship is set to be awarded in the spring of 2014.

There will be prizes for the lowest score, longest drive, closest to the pin and $5 a box gift drawings will also be held. Registration can be done online or sending a check to:
