Multitude of Students Honored at BOE Meeting

Numerous students recognized for Howell Mania 25, essay contests and band events.

Nearly 200 people packed into Howell Middle School North Wednesday to see the Board of Education honor dozens of students.

Families watched as their kids were recognized for several recent events and accomplishments, including , the Monsignor Donovan Scholastic Olympics, the Barnes and Noble Essay Award winner and the Student Achievement Award.

The celebration of all of the district’s students began with a brief presentation by district Superintendent Enid Golden. She remarked how excited she was to have so many superb students in the district who have worked hard to receive the awards being doled out that evening.

She noted that Howell Mania 25, where students with special needs participated in many activities such as bowling and a track and field event, was quite successful, and every student who participated exuded “sportsmanship and teamwork.”

Right afterward, a slide show was shown with clips of Howell Mania 25, set to Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up.” The slideshow led several board members to remark how lucky they were to have such great teachers for students with disabilities in the district, and how impressed they were with the whole event.

Following that touching exhibition, teachers and principals from all of Howell’s schools came out to present awards to the students for various band, sports and essay competitions. Each student was greeted with a hearty round of applause for their accomplishment, with every student receiving a certificate to show off what they had done.

The next Howell Township Board of Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 8 p.m.
