Reichenbecher Named New Head Coach for Rebels

Longtime assistant gets his chance to lead the squad

When the football team takes the field this fall there will be no question about who the new man in charge of the program is.

The school announced on Tuesday morning that Derek Reichenbecher will replace Coach Cory Davies, who recently . Not only has he spent the past 11 years as an assistant with the team he is also a former player on the squad having played for Davies before graduating in 1996. 

Reichenbecher has held several positions on both sides of the ball during his coaching career including four years as offensive coordinator and four years including the past two as defensive coordinator.

"Coach R," as he is known by his players, also has guided the Howell lacrosse team the past 10 years in which he helped the Rebels clinch a division title in 2005 and helped them to the state playoffs six of the past seven years.

During his playing days Reichenbecher was an All-State Player and represented the Rebels in the 2006 editions of the NJ North South All Star Game and the All Shore Classic. Following his graduation he continued his academic and athletic careers at Boston University.

He was also inducted in the Howell High School Hall of Fame.

Reichenbecher and the Rebels are scheduled to open their 2012 season on Sept. 8 when they will travel to take on the Mariners of Toms River North.
