Student Effort Adds Up to Big Assist for St. Jude

Math-A-Thon a big success at Taunton School

When students at the first got involved with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , they wanted to do their best to help other kids in need.

By the time they were done the local students had raised an incredible $10 thousand dollars helping the organization and proving why their teachers are so proud of their efforts. "Every dollar raised will help support the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving children in communities worldwide," said Cari Kennedy, a teacher at the school who coordinated the event.

Kennedy said the Math-A-Thon has been going on for more than 30 years with more than 10 thousand schools participating. Since the program started it has raised more than $400 million for the hospital.

As part of the Math-A-Thon teachers like Kennedy serve as volunteer coordinators while students solve math problems either on paper or online. They then seek donations from friends and family for the problems they solve.
