Kumon Owner Helps Next Generations in Howell

Local business helps students with math and reading skills.

As a Howell native Connie Schmidt Kirman knew she wanted to do something to give back to her hometown. When the Kumon of Howell became available in 2008 she said she knew that would be a way to help future generations of Howell residents.

Patch asked Kirman about this decision and being a small business owner in the town she loves.

Why did you choose the town you chose to start your business in?

I grew up in Howell and wanted to make a difference in education locally.

What is your business best known for?

Kumon is able to help children at all levels develop their academic potential to the fullest.  We have our own curriculum in math and reading, through daily study students develop excellent study habits and advance beyond their grade level in study.  All students should be enrolled in Kumon Math!

What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?

I found out about Kumon from a colleague at Lehigh University who told me my kids should "do Kumon".  I enrolled my girls when my oldest was in second grade, when I saw the difference it made in them I was hooked.  Both of my own children have completed the reading program and are studying ahead of grade level in math.
