From Boston to Howell: Resident Shares Fenway Story

Trip to the ballpark about more than just a game

When the country was rocked by the terrorist attacks in Boston last week the affect of the blasts were felt by people far beyond the people who were in the city at the time.

Howell resident Tom Smith made the trip up to Fenway Park with his son Ryan for Saturday's game and was part of a full house to see the Red Sox play. A game against the Kansas City Royals may not have normally drawn a sellout to the historic ballpark. However, with it being the first game since the events at the Boston Marathon Smith said there was a different feeling in the air. "Based on what transpired in this great city this week the crowd was electric and the day was quite emotional," he said in a post on the Howell Patch Facebook page.

Smith said the whole experience made for a memorable day as the Red Sox held on for a 4-3 win. "I don't believe I will ever experience something so great," he said.

The full stadium was a stark contrast to the scene he encountered when he arrived in New England on Friday. "The city was empty with only law enforcement and military vehicles on the road," he noted. In a city known for its energy to be so quiet, Smith said he could feel the difference right away.

After the search for the suspects finished Smith said the trip took on a whole new feeling. "The city started turning and all came out to cheer," he said. "From their throughout Saturday it was awesome to be part of this great city."
