Howell AYF Shines in the Florida Sun

Football and cheerleading squads take top 5 nationally.

The squads from the Howell American youth Cheer and Football organization had a busy end to their 2013 season that included a trip to Florida for all five groups in the national championships.

Included in the group were 20 coaches, 12 trainers and 93 cheerleaders ranging in age from 6-to-13-years old who made the trip from the Garden State to the Sunshine State. The girls faced the toughest competition from around the country and showed they belong as all the local teams finished ranked among the top 5 in their respective age groups.

Not only did they show their skills to the other top teams in the competition there was also a strong contingent of fans there to cheer on the Howell girls. By the time all the teams were done all the routines had been done without dropping a stunt or having a single deduction by the judges.

Coach Dawn Turner said it was a good showing for the long trip to Florida. “We are so very proud of all of these girls,” she said. “They work so hard to perfect these routines. We couldn’t have been more pleased.”

Not to be outdone the AYF Junior Midget Football team also brought home some hardware from Florida. The 21 players and their eight coaches brought home a third place finish in the national tournament to cap off a busy and successful year.
