Lady Rebels Top Southern in Late Season Contest

With states ahead Howell girls keep up strong play

For the Howell Lady Rebels, very little was on the line when they took on Southern Regional on Tuesday afternoon. Having been ousted from the Shore Conference Tournament in an exciting game with Jackson Liberty last Friday, the girls are still awaiting the start of the state tournament ahead.

The girls kept up what has been a very strong season as they beat the Rams 59-40 on the back of a dominating first half. After jumping out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter alone, the lead continued to grow as they out scored their guests 18-8 in the second quarter.

Coach William Gallacher said when it came to first half scoring one of the driving forces was senior Sarah Olson who scored 10 of her 12 points in the first two quarters. That was accompanied by Alex Milne adding eight of her 10 in the first half.

Those two performances definitely helped the Lady Rebels succeed, but it was Lauren Kolacki who was the leading scorer with 13 points on the afternoon. Running the point for the team was Kaitlyn Schmid who had seven assists and three steals on the night, while Christina Justiniano had six points and four assists. Milne and Allie Moreland also had eight rebounds each in the game.

The girls are scheduled to take on Monsignor Donovan on Thursday afternoon on the road, before hosting the Pirates of West Windsor Plainsboro South on Monday. The game against the squad from Mercer county kicks off the Central Jersey Group IV tournament where the Rebels are the third seed and West Windsor is the 14th.
