Rebels Roll to Kick Off Wrestling Season

Howell squad expected to challenge for conference and state titles this year.

The Howell Rebels kicked off the wrestling season with a trip this weekend to Paulsboro for the John and Betty Vogeding Tournament.

By the time they made the long trip home from south Jersey the squad had four individual titles and a team title according results posted on Theshoreconference.com. The Rebels showed they have a lot of strength in the lower weights as freshman Peter Dee won at 106, Jimmy Slendorn won the 120 weight class and Anthony Gagliano won at 126. The last individual title came at 138 from Josue Pierre-Louis.

Second place finishes came from Kris Lindemann at 132 and Kyle Cocozza at 220 to help the locals get the title. Six Howell wrestlers brought home third place finishes including Anthony Piazza at 126 and David Nocks at 152. The local squad also had a good showing at the upper weights thanks to Nick Lurski at 170, Austin Silverstein at 182, Stephen Boncimino at 195 and Nate Litowsky at heavyweight.

In the end the Rebels finished with 276.5 points which put them just ahead of the hosts who earned 257.5. Woodstown finished third with 188.5 points which put them ahead of fellow Shore Conference competitor Keansburg. The Titans finished fourth with 116 points.
