Howell Day Provides Full Slate of Activities

With the Independence Day holiday behind them Howell residents still have another big celebration to look forward to. 

Howell Day is set to be held on Saturday at and there figures to be plenty for everyone to enjoy during an action packed afternoon and evening.

Steven Fecher, the Director of Community Relations said the fun kicks off at 2 p.m. and will not end until the roll around 10:30 Saturday night.

Fecher said the day will include plenty of entertainment from games to rides to blowups for kids to climb. He said several local radio stations will also be there providing musical entertainment including New Jersey 101.5 and Magic 100.1.

There will also be some big name live acts performing including The Eddie Testa band from 3 p.m. to 4:30 and the The Nerds playing at 7 p.m. 

Another addition to this year's program is a watermelon eating contest. Fecher said they will be held throughout the day giving people of all ages a chance to devour as much of the juicy summer fruit as they can in a very short period of time. 

With so much to do Fecher said he hoped residents of all ages would be able to enjoy the day. "We want to have something for everybody," he said. With the two concerts and the movie Fecher said the goal was to link the day with a night time event to bring more people out.

Whether it is parents bringing their kids out for the fun and games or people coming for the vendors or the food Fecher said he is expecting another successful event. 

For those in attendance parking will be available at Middle School North, Howell High School and the Aldrich Park & Ride. A shuttle bus will then run throughout the day to take them to the park. 

The forecast for Saturday could put temperatures close to 100 degrees with the heat index with a 30 percent chance of rain. Fecher said along with the food items people can buy to cool down there will also be comfort stations throughout the park. That way, he said people can have a place to cool down while enjoying the day.
