Howell Day Two Weeks Away

41st Annual Event Event Set for July 6

Over the past few years Howell Day has taken on different incarnations as one of the highlights of the calendar in the township and this year figures to be no exception.

Two years ago the event was held in the fall before moving to the summer last year. Mayor Bill Gotto said he is excited for the June 6 date that figures to bring a big bang to Oak Glen Park.

In an effort to beat the heat the festivities will start at 5 p.m. and will include rides, vendors and food for residents to enjoy. Two popular music acts, the Eddie Testa Band and The Nerds will perform during the course of the night and weather permitting the grand finale will be a fireworks spectacular.

Mayor Gotto said with fewer people traveling during the holiday weekend the governing body was looking to give them a destination to celebrate Independence Day and the history of the township. "The fireworks are a big event," he said. "I always pictured 20-30 years ago when things that happened in the town were the center of attention that day."

Parking will not be available at the park so people attending the festival will need to park at either Middle School North and Howell High School or the Aldrich Park & Ride.

The rain date for Howell Day is scheduled for July 7.
