Point Beach homeowners are welcome to the First Annual Family Fishing Night at the Manasquan Inlet's Loughran Point from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
The local Recreation Committee is planning the free event, with Alex's Bait and Tackle Shop providing free bait and fishing instructions and discounted rods and reels.
"Let's come together as a town for another enjoyable event for the Point Pleasant Beach residents," says an email invitation distributed by Glen Paesano and Mike Ramos of the Recreation Committee.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own rods and reels, if possible, as well as chairs. But they are not to bring alcohol.
Space availability is first-come, first-served, with an area around the fisherman statue at Loughran Point roped off by police for local residents since the Recreation Committee got town approval.
Food and beverages are being provided by Waffles and More and Ralph's is providing Italian ices.
The Recreation Committee is inviting all homeowners in Point Pleasant Beach, regardless of whether they are full-time residents, Paesano said.
He said the event is open to all who pay property taxes in Point Beach because the Recreation Committee is using $300 from the recreation budget to pay for prizes for the event and the recreation budget is funded by local taxpayers.
Also, since space availability will be greatly limited, the committee cannot open the event to all visitors to the tourist town, he said.
They are asking participants to "walk, bike or run," rather than drive, since parking will be limited and motorists will have to feed parking meters.
