Council Meeting Twice This Week

A look at events happening around Howell this week.

The Howell Zoning Board of Adjustment is scheduled to meet tonight and the biggest item on the agenda has become one of the most familiar to board members.

Once again the applicants looking to build a hotel at the intersection of Route 9 North and Northwoods Place are coming before the board to present their case and respond to questions from the board and a group of residents opposed to its construction. This will mark the seventh hearing on the application for the board so far this year.

The Howell Town Council will meet twice this week starting with their regular meeting on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. One item on the agenda is an item to authorize the execution of a grant with the Department of Transportation for the Safe Corridors program. The grant is for $136,501.52.

The council is also continuing the process of figuring out plans for buildings which were left empty following the consolidation into the new Municipal Building. One item on the agenda is a public hearing the sale of the building located at 450 Adelphia Road to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. There are also two ordinances set to be introduced that would allow the Howell PAL and the Howell Food Pantry to lease space at the former tax building located at 449 Adelphia Road.

Following that meeting the council is scheduled to convene again on Thursday night when they will discuss the future of the Township Manager position following the recent resignation of longtime manager Helene Schlegel.
