Fantastic! Santa has been through our neighborhood here on Salem Hill with sirens and lights and theRead More cchildren are all smiles waiving and excited. .. we never saw such wonderful community spirit and its a breath of fresh air to know that this is another reason we are so glad we chose Howell as our forever home. Merry Christmas and a truly Happy New Year to all my friends and neighbors. And to our First Responders thank you for all you do to keep us safe, secure and calm in a time of fear or crises when your responding to our call for help, whether its a car accident, fire or any multitude of things...helping another deserves recognition and appreciation.

No, a gluten free diet is not a fad. No one willingly gives up the things they love to eat on aRead More whim. This doesn't mean that some people aren't misguided. Gluten free isn't low cal: there is gluten free junk food, which is being promoted for profit. The demand exists. I disagree with the statement that the gluten free lifestyle is a medical necessity for a fraction of the population. True Celiac may be seen in only 1% of the population, but gluten sensitivity is far more common. The causes are probably varied: increased exposure to genetically modified foods is thought to be one factor. Some more unfortunate individuals, myself among them, also suffer from casein sensitivity. Believe me when I say that consuming gluten or casein when you can't digest them is no pleasant thing. Pain is a great motivator to strictly maintain a diet free of the offending substances. Therefore, the proliferation of GF foods, while done for profit, is a boon to those of us who have had to bear a spartan diet, heretofore. Of course, there are many sources for tantalizing recipes now available. Making your own goodies is much more affordable, and probably lots healthier.
